Insane People Insane World Part 3 The Fuzz

I want to explore the issue of police a little more.  If you recognized the term “the Fuzz” congratulations you are old.  For those of you young whippersnappers who are unfamiliar with that term “the Fuzz” is 70’s and 80’s slang for the police.

Police have way too much power these days.  I believe this power is perceived power rather than actual lawful power.  I think that departments are assuming control where they have no legal authority to assume control.  Look at how the police are becoming militarized.  Today it is becoming more and more common to see police looking like some combat force, rather than the customary neighborhood cop walking a beat.

Good question

Good question

Cops have a tough job, there is no doubt about it.  However consider this, crime statistics keep dropping but the police activity keeps intensifying.  Why do the cops automatically assume I am some kind of felon when they stop me for speeding or other minor traffic violations?  Why do cops think they have a right to ask me for identification?  Why do cops automatically assume I am doing something illegal?  Why do cops come after minor law breakers when they know where the real bad guys are?  Why have cops stopped patrolling for the people and started managing the people? Watch this exchange I found on YouTube.

If you watched the video you saw a young man who was pretty shaken up over his encounter with the police, and no wonder.  The first cop clearly has his hand on his gun.  The second cop looks like he is a gunslinger in the old west with his gun slung low for a quick draw.  I have never been to Middletown, Connecticut but I can’t imagine it is worse than Detorit, Michigan.  Also notice the military type uniform on the police in small town America.  These guys look like they are ready for an invasion not like they are serving and protecting a community.  By the end of the video the young man is shaking so badly he cannot hold the camera straight but he challenges the cops with the constitution they swore to protect against all enemies foreign and domestic.  Unfortunately, they seem to be the domestic enemy.  This young man showed great bravery, but he also was asking for a confrontation.  Police seem to be extremely nervous whenever you video tape public areas or persons.  Especially when you videotape them.  Here is another example.

This video shows why it is necessary to record cops.  Cops are out of control.  They have a perception of power which is not granted to them through the constitution.  I am sick and tired of the idea that because you have a badge and a gun you are my boss.  I am your boss, and you are here to serve and protect me.  That means that I don’t have to identify myself, you must identify yourself.  I am not guilty of any crime, even if you arrest me I am not guilty.  The state has the burden of proving me guilty.  Just because you claim to be suspicious does not mean I have committed a crime.

I am sick and tired of the idea that because you have a badge and a gun you are my boss

I am sick and tired of the idea that because you have a badge and a gun you are my boss.

You can spend hours watching YouTube videos of cops violating rights, beating innocent people, killing people and falsely arresting people.  It is disturbing and it has nothing to do with race, everything to do with these out of control cops.

Another issue is minor traffic violations.  Think about it, do you speed, run red lights, stop signs, make illegal U-turns and commit other traffic violations.  The answer you are searching for is YES, you do.  Everyone who drives has committed minor traffic violations.  I commute roughly 35 miles a day.  I am going to violate the traffic laws from time to time and probably on a weekly basis.  Before you start pointing your finger at me, realize you do the same thing.  If the speed limit is 45 and you are doing 46 YOU LOSE SUCKER, you just violated the law and you are a criminal.  Unfriend me on Facebook, block me on Twitter, send nasty messages to my email, but you are a criminal.  So is everyone else on the road.  I am not a great violator of the law, but I will do 70 in a 60, I will California roll a right turn on red, and certain stop signs.  I will change lanes without signaling, and I will roll down the road sans seat belt.  On the weekends and sometimes during the week I drive for Uber.  Uber is a peer to peer rideshare service which has become very popular in major US cities and around the world.  I probably drive 500-1000 miles a week working Uber.  I am going to violate the traffic laws.

Think about this.  Why are there traffic laws? Most people would say public safety, but I challenge that notion.  If I am doing 70 in a 60 I am probably not going to cause many problems.  Yes, I know, speed kills; but in reality speed does not kill, excessive speed kills.  If I was doing 11o in a 60 now you have a case against me for endangering public safety.  Most speeding tickets are given to people going 10 – 15 miles over the posted limit.  Those folks are not going to cause an accident, they are not endangering other motorists, and they are not endangering themselves in the overwhelming majority of cases.  Nevertheless cops hand out tickets like Jehovah’s Witnesses hand out The Watchtower.  Have you ever asked yourself why?  The answer is clear and undeniable; revenue.  Many cities do not report the amount of revenue they steal from their citizens through “traffic violations.”  If you pass enough laws and ordinances everyone will be guilty and everyone will be forced to pay.  Is this why we have police?

Better get your papers ready.

Better get your checkbook ready.

The Houston Metropolitan area  has over 30 different policing departments, each employees a number of people to keep us safe.  Those people cost money, therefore those departments must justify their existence by writing tickets.  Are they really protecting and serving us?  The bottom line is this, when our rights come into conflict with their revenue our right will be violated.  Everything comes down to money.  Law enforcement in this day and age is very similar to the mafia of days gone by.  They are running a sophisticated and intricate protection racket and every day we applaud them for it.  Cops are not your friend, they are bill collectors with a gun and a badge and you had better watch out for them or you might just be the next Eric Garner.

Go ahead, do 30 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Go ahead, do 30 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Insane People Insane World Part 2 The Domestic Front

A note to my 6 or 7 readers:  Sorry for taking so long, this is a huge subject and I fell that if I post everything I write in one sitting you will not read it.  I tend to write 2,000-3,000 words at a time and this seems like a little much.  I have already amended this post and it stands at almost 1800 words and I feel like I haven’t scratched the surface of what I want to say here.  Let me know your thoughts on the subject of the length of my posts; please, and thank you for reading.  (Update: this post is 2,567 words…oops)

Earthquake Concept

In part one we explored the precarious position of our economy and we discovered without a doubt that our government is lying to us.  Not only is our government lying to us, but it is spying on us.  We now know that the NSA has been keeping tabs on our phone calls and records. FISA can suspend your constitutional right to due process and privacy and tap your phone or put your home under surveillance.  The Patriot Act strips many rights from US citizens.  Drones can drop out of the sky and blow you and your kids up while you are on foreign territory. Yes, I know, that guy was Al Qaeda, and he deserved to die; but he was also an American Citizen, and if they are willing to kill him, they are willing to kill you.  If they are willing to suspend his right to a fair trial, they are willing to suspend your right to a fair trial. What about Osama Bin Laden, he deserved to die too didn’t he?  Did he deserve to die when he was working for the CIA to undermine Soviets in Afghanistan in the 1980’s. Oh is that too tin foil hat conspiracy theorist for you?  Well I will save all of that foreign stuff for another post.  Have you been stopped by the cops lately? Check this out —->https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qUT2uPVlvg I will warn you, the foul language is not the most offensive thing in this video, not by a long shot.

If you watched the video it shows cops abusing their authority.  It seems there are more and more cases of cops absolutely abusing their authority all around this country.  The killing in Ferguson, followed by the choking in New York, followed by the killing of the little boy in Cleveland, it is all ridiculous.  I believe all of these situations resulted in the unnecessary deaths of these two black men, and little boy.  However, these are not isolated to the black community.  White people, Hispanic people, all Americans are subjected to out of control cops.  This has to stop.

If you don’t do what they tell you to you will be beaten.

How about Ferguson, Missouri? A whole town,  erupted because, well um, because, you see, they uh…why exactly is all of that going on?  Some white crazy ass cracker cop shot a poor innocent African American kid six times execution style.  Now I will not pretend to know all of the details of this issue, I don’t, but for some reason everyone who is participating in the riots in Ferguson knows exactly what happened.  They can burn and loot and kill because they are angry.  They are angry because the Grand Jury refused to indict the cop that killed Micheal Brown.  The fact is I was not there, you were not there, only the cop, the dead man, and now the Grand Jury know w hat really happened, and the Grand Jury refused to indict.   Then we have the whole Eric Garner situation in New York.  That man was also unarmed, also killed by a cop, and he also allegedly committed a minor crime.  Both of these killings are tragic, and shameful, but that does not justify rioting; but you best not say anything against them or you are a racist.

"Hey guys, isn't this just a little bit cliche?"

“Hey guys, isn’t this just a little bit cliche?”

You are also a racist if you think George Zimmerman was innocent.  You are also a racist if you think that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are not great reverends.  You are also racist if you say anything against His Holiness Barrack Obama. You are also racist if you think that private companies and churches shouldn’t pay for birth control and abortions.  You are also racist if you think there is something wrong with gay marriage. You are also racist if you think those folks from Mexico and Central America don’t have a right to come here in any way they choose. You are also a racist if you think Katie Kouric is an air head, and you’re sexist too.  You are also a racist if you give a stupid award to a white girl instead of Beyonce.  You are also a racist if you use the word black in front of African Americans.  You are also racist if you call African Americans black.  You are also racist for reading this paragraph.  You are also racist if you don’t have black friends.  You are also racist if you do have black friends but they are not your best friends.  You are also racist if you have black friends and you say you have black friends when trying to defend yourself against the charge of being racist.  You are also racist if you think Eric Holder is a criminal.  You are also racist if you are a Republican.  You are also a racist if you listen to Country Music.  You are racist if you listen to rock music.  You are racist if you listen to classical music because there has never been a great minority composer of classical music.  You a are also racist if you are white and listen to rap music.  You are also racist if you are a white rapper. You are also a racist if you listen to conservative talk radio, or if you have an AM dial on your radio. You are also a racist if you own a gun.  You are also a racist if you don’t find all of this racist.  You are also a racist if you like fried chicken and watermelon. You are also a racist if you don’t like fried chicken and watermelon. You are also a racist if you use fried chicken and watermelon in the same sentence. Congratulations you are a racist.

I konw, I konw, I went overboard, but hey, that is what I do.  The fact is we are all, everyone single one of us, racist.  I know what you are thinking, I am not racist, to which I will reply, yes you are a racist.  Here is a simple test.  Which racial group is the smartest?  Which racial group has the highest achievers? Which race do you prefer to be your leaders? Which race do you feel more comfortable with as industry leaders?  Which racial group make the best on-air personalities?  Which racial group is best at math?  Most Americans would answer their own racial group for the first 5 questions, that makes you a racist.  All of us would say Asian for the sixth question.  You just laughed, and that makes you racist, but I am more racist because I wrote it.  After all these years we still have a problem with race, and it is getting worse not better.  Our first black President is hated because he is black, and he was also voted for because he is black.  The reality is he is only half black, yet he has managed to further divide this country over the color of our skin.  Insanity.  Prior to Obama racial tensions were easing and things were normalizing.  Black people and white people were finding common ground and things were improving.  Now the wheels are coming off the cart.

Malcom X aka Malcom Little…I wonder if he was my cousin?

Slavery was a horrible institution, but it has been over for 151 years.  Think about that.  I am 43, my mother is 66, my grandfather is 90 almost 91. My grandfather was born 61 years after slavery ended.  I have never asked him, but I am guessing he never knew any slaves, but he possibly could have.  Shelia Jackson Lee Democrat congresswoman from mere feet from where I am sitting in Houston, TX claimed to be a slave.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5qR8w2LEtc PREPOSTEROUS, she is only 64 years old! I have a theory on race that I will not expound upon here, but suffice it to say, we are all descended from Noah.  What color was Noah?  Who cares, there are no races except the human race, and as soon as we all begin to realize this truth, there will no longer be racism.  However, there will still be cultureism which is what racism really is.

There is however, something worse than racism.  President Obama has spent tremendous amounts of political capital on dividing this country through class envy.  Remember the “Occupy” movement?  In the Occupy movement the 99% were fighting for their piece of the pie.  The idea was that the 1% has the overwhelming wealth in this country while the 99%ers, you and me, do not have hardly any wealth at all. Why should I fall prey to the ideal that another man should share his wealth with me?  What have I done to merit his wealth?  If the top 1% hold 25% of the nation’s wealth is that truly a problem?  Why does the President constantly bring up the subject.  Why does he continually try to pit the wealthy against the poor?  Why are his definitions of wealthy and poor so obscure?

class war

I have several uncles and they are all successful in their own right, but none of them are rich.  They pay their mortgages, car payments, some of them have multiple houses, one or two have boats, four wheelers, classic cars, etc.  None of them are suffering under any kind of poverty, but again, I have no rich uncle.  Why should they feel anxiety because the guy down the street has more?  Why should they feel like they need to catch up to the millionaire or billionaire down the street? I don’t have that stuff, and I struggle every month to pay my bills.  Perhaps my stinkin’ uncles should kick in and support me.  From each according to his ability, to each according to their need.  Hey uncles, I have needs…I need a boat, I need a four wheeler, or a fifth wheel, shoot, I would even take a classic car or two.

Let’s make it a bit more personal.  Do you have a hard time paying your rent? Phone bill? Cable bill? Electricity bill? Bar bill? Kids soccer bill? Ballet lessons? Baseball lessons? Car payment? Xbox Live subscription? Do you?  There are hardly any Americans left who know what it means to go without.  When I was a kid my family was not wealthy, we were for the most part lower middle class and both of my folks worked.  I did not wear Nike shoes, I didn’t have the cool long sleeve OP shirt, Girbaud jeans, not even Guess jeans.  I did however have a pair or two of parachute pants…please don’t judge me. I didn’t even get Wrangler jeans, I wore Rustlers. I had the knock off Zips tennis shoes. I didn’t play little league, or soccer except for one year of each.  I wasn’t in ballet…I promise, I really wasn’t.  The point is I had to go without, and my kids have had to go without.  Does that mean that George Soros or Bill Gates owe me money.  Should these two fine upstanding American multi-billionaires send some cash my way?  HELL NO!  Do you want to know why?  Bill Gates and George Soros earned their money.  Even if they didn’t earn their money I am not entitled to it in a free market capitalist society.

America employees a free market capitalist model.  That means that individuals and corporations have the right and responsibility to own and conduct business in an open and free marketplace.  Through the years our government has done what they could to stifle and dismantle this system.  The government has increasingly taken control over businesses and industries.  Think about this, almost all homes have mortgages payable to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, VA, or FHA.  Which one or ones of these are not government entities?  If you said none of them you are correct. Fannie and Freddie are both Government Sponsored Entities.  Government Sponsored Entities are created by congress to help people get credit.  Even if you received your loan from Wells Fargo or Bank of America they still use the Fannie and Freddy guidelines to approve your loan and will eventually sell your loan on the secondary market.  What about the radio industry? Television? Electricity, coal, oil, medical, real estate, the National Football League, and Baseball?  All of these industries suffer at the hands of confiscatory government regulation.  The coal industry has suffered greater loss due to regulation than any other industry in history.  I will not bore you with the minutia, but the coal industry has been devastated.  You Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania Democrats had better re-think your voting strategy.  Coal has suffered a greater than 60% decline in the last 5 years due to nothing more than government regulations at the direction of the Obama.  Certain areas of the country are and will continue to experience brown outs due to lack of adequate electricity because of this overreach by the government.  All of this is conducted at the will of a rogue government agency known as the Environmental Protection Agency.  How can this be in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

We are becoming a third world nation.  The gap between rich and poor is increasing.  The middle class is beginning to disappear.  Small business are being driven out and taken over by large corporations.  We are all suffering because of the policies of the ever increasing oligarchy.  There are a few who hold and or can manipulate the power, and they are wielding it against us.  We are losing this country one family, one small business, one vote at a time.

One last quick point.  What is the number one profession of our presidents?  Answer: Lawyer.  We keep electing Lawyers to be our president and things keep getting worse.  A lawyer is like a prostitute, they will sell themselves to whomever puts up the money.  They will argue to win, not because they necessarily agree with their own arguments, but because this is their only tool to gain success.  Lawyers are not leaders, they are manipulators.  If we want real change in this country we need to stop electing lawyers and start looking for candidates who are servants of the people.

There is so much to say about the domestic front I do not think I can ever finish, but this is a start.  It seems like at this moment these are the most pressing issues on the national scene.  Of course there is healthcare, and immigration both of which are important and I will try to get something posted on these soon. Feel free to share your thoughts.

We Need a Revolution Part 3

Strike the Empire

You know that’s awesome!

This continues number 4 of the things we need to do.  We need a clear platform going forward and we are on plank number 5 of that platform. Please see Part 1 and Part 2 for more information.

E. Solve illegal immigration. There are no easy fixes to illegal immigration. One side would have you believe that every illegal immigrant is here for the American dream the other side will tell you they are all criminals looking for hand-outs while driving drunk. Both sides are wrong. Illegal immigrants span the socioeconomic scale. Some are rotten no good criminals, but last time I checked we grew those here too. Some are decent hard-working people trying to do what is best for their families. Some are running from something, some are running to something. We need to have compassion on these folks and deal with them as people, not as numbers. There needs to be a comprehensive plan which looks at all the issues not just the hot button issues. Yes they committed a crime by coming here illegal, but not all of them are career criminals hell-bent on killing you and your family while selling drugs and running guns. We also need to know how many there are, some say 12,000,000 some say 20,000,000. We need to know. Many of them have been here decades and have a life here, some of them got here yesterday. What is the solution…that is a whole other article, but the questions need to be asked and answered and the problem solved.  We cannot continue to refuse to enforce the laws on the books or be hamstrung by cries of racism by those who think we should give California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas back to Mexico.

F. End discrimination by stopping Affirmative Action Initiatives . I know a few people in the oil and gas industry. All major players in the industry recruit workers right out of college to remain competitive in the industry. I know someone who does this work, and they were instructed not to recruit any white males. They were also told to specifically look for women and blacks. They were additionally instructed to avoid Asians. Hmmm, does this sound right? If I were an Oil and Gas company I would look for the brightest and best individual to help my company remain competitive. If they were black, white, Asian or Hispanic or whatever, I would seek to hire them. Quotas impede excellence and competition. Conservatives believe in equality of opportunity, liberals believe in equality of resources. In America we need to forward the idea of equality of opportunity and eradicate the idea of equality of resources. When a company refuses to recruit an individual because of the color of their skin or what equipment they have between their legs it is wrong; it makes no difference if the individual is male or female black or white. Affirmative Action is discrimination.

G. Fix foreign Policy. Republicans need to embrace the rugged individualistic principles that have shaped Americans and caused them to prosper for over two centuries. We need to export these ideas to our allies and the people of our enemies as well. We do not do this by supporting nations that support and shield terrorists, like Pakistan. We do not do this by inserting ourselves in the struggles of countries like Lybia and Syria. We must help the nations of the world by staying out of their business. This may sound simplistic but consider the alternative. We have been involved in one war or another for the entire 20th and 21st centuries. When does it stop? It stops when we concern ourselves with building our nation and not the nations of Korea, Vietnam, Somalia, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lybia, or any other country in the world. Their problems are their own, they do not concern the U.S.A.  We are not the police of the world and we are not its daddy.  We must end all forms of foreign aid to all but a select few countries.  We need to stop arming and enriching countries that we may eventually face on the battlefield.

H. Become Self Sufficient. The United States has the natural resources to be self-sufficient. We must produce all of our own energy, and we can. We must do our own manufacturing, and we can. We must re-establish fair trade with China and we can. We must increase our exports, and we can. We must encourage manufacturing on American shores with tax credits, and we can.  We must get the federal government out-of-the-way to do all of these things, and we can.

These are seven main points in a platform that can help conservatives wrest control of this country from the statist Democrats. I truly believe that most Americans would agree with a platform like this, and the message needs to begin now. Unfortunately there are not very many Republicans trying to advance such a platform because the word conservative has come to describe someone who is mean-spirited, hates the poor, loves the rich, and hates everyone that is not white.  For far too long we conservatives have allowed the liberals to define who we are.  We have lost, utterly lost the public relations battle, and it is time we started to fight fire with fire.   Conservatives need to call a spade a spade and not be afraid of being call racist, bigot, homophobe.  I was encouraged that the AP has taken the word homophobe out of its style book and is encouraging their reporter not to use it.

Conservatives must take the fight to the liberals, and we must take our message to the people.

We Need Revolution Part 2

Don’t mess with the Founding Fathers Yo!

We need a revolution of thought in the G.O.P.  We need some fresh perspective, without compromising our principles.  Some Republicans have already begun down this road of compromising principles and we the voters must let them the elected know this is not acceptable.   To continue with yesterday’s post, we will start with number 4.  To recap number 1. Stop the abortion nonsense 2. Stop the spending. 3. Stop the warmongering and now

4. START putting together a sensible and easy to understand platform for the 2016 Presidential election. That platform should include a multi-step plan for getting this country back to its former glory. It should also be simple to explain.

A. Cut spending – we cannot afford to continue to support 47% or more of our population with food stamps and welfare. We cannot afford to send foreign aid all over the world to people who hate us. We cannot afford to support the arts and sciences on the federal level. We cannot afford to pay for education on a national level. We cannot afford the pork barrel spending that is taking place now. We cannot afford another stimulus package with “shovel ready” jobs. We cannot afford the overwhelming size of government.  We cannot afford to bail out companies like G.M. Chrysler and AIG.  We cannot afford to look to government to bail out any company in the private sector.  We also need a balanced budget amendment and spending caps for every sector including the military.  We cannot afford to continue this out of control spending and hope to survive as the worlds only super power.  We must stop deficit spending now.

B. Cut Taxes. When we cut taxes revenue raises. That means the lower the tax rate the more the government collects. We need to eliminate all deductions period, but we also need to eliminate the IRS. How do we do this? It is quite simple, we enact a flat tax. Everyone who works pays 10-15% of their income in taxes. That means if you make $25,000 you pay $2,500 to $3,750 in taxes. If you earn $50,000 you pay $5,000 to $7,500. If you earn $100,000 you pay $10,000 to $15,000, and if you earn $250,000 you pay $25,000 to $37,500 in taxes. It is simple and easy. Right now if you earn $50,000 you hardly pay anything in taxes, and if you make $25,000 you get money back because of silly government welfare programs like the Earned Income Tax Credit or EITC. We have to stop the bleeding. Every American should pay something. Even if it is only $50, everyone who works should pay.  We also need to stop stealing Americans money by forcing them to pay their taxes as they go through payroll deductions.  Automatic payroll deduction is a scam.  When you earn your income you should not have to pay your taxes upfront allow the government to overcharge you then rejoice a year later when you get a refund.  A refund is exactly that, it is a refund of the money you have over-paid for your taxes.  Instead your taxes should be paid after you have earned your income.  If taxes are due the following April 15th you should be expected to pay your previous year’s taxes by that date.  If you owe $2500 or $10,000 you should surrender this money to the government by that date.  The way it works now is the government collects your taxes directly from your paycheck, holds it interest free, and refunds you the difference sometime in the next year.  However, if you owe more tax and you are late, you get to pay penalties and interest on that money.  If you do this in business, you will be arrested for fraud, but since our government does it we sheepishly cower before them and ask for more like the iconic scene from Oliver Twist.

C. Cut Government jobs. The Cabinet includes the Vice President and the heads of 15 executive departments — the Secretaries of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury, and Veterans Affairs, as well as the Attorney General. Of these positions we do not need Education, Energy, HHS, Homeland Security, HUD Interior, Labor, Transportation or Veterans Affairs. All of those functions could be absorbed by Commerce, Defense, State and Treasury. In addition to these cabinet positions which all have secretaries and under-secretaries, assistants, and huge staffs, there are 38 Czars, 33 of which are not confirmed by Congress. They and theirs staffs can all go!  In addition to cabinet positions and czars there are any number of superfluous agencies and bureaucratic departments that produce nothing but needless waste and regulation.  The  Government is orca fat and needs to go through a couple of seasons of The Biggest Loser, Gillian and Bob style!

D. Make the Military strong but manageable. Imagine if we were not fighting a war. Since your birth our country has been involved in some kind of war.  I really don’t care when you were born, we have been at war somewhere on this globe. We have gone from one major conflict to another since the dawn of the 20th century. Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, Bosnia, Somalia, Afghanistan, back to Iraq, it goes on and on. Those are just the major ones, Besides these major conflicts there have been dozens of minor skirmishes. We are not the police of the world. The world’s problems are not our problems. They need to work it out on their own!  Yes, I know we have national interests around the world, but that needs to change too, keep reading.

These are the first four points I believe are essential for a strong conservative platform.  I have three more which I will post tomorrow.  We need a revolution in this country, not a revolution with guns and bombs, but a revolution of thought.  A revolution that suppresses emotional solutions to our problems and instead finds a logical solutions based on sound fundamental principles outlined in our constitution and by our Founding Fathers.  Conservative principles which looks first to the private sector and local governments to solve domestic problems and the federal government to manage foreign issues.

Look for Part 3 tomorrow.

Little Men Big Power 2

You want to know why your church is so small, it is because we stopped loving people and started loving judgment.  When I was a kid my dad used to get so mad at us, it was kind of humorous but tragic at the same time.  He was sure that the reason we didn’t pick up the piece of paper on the kitchen floor was to personally offend him.  We didn’t clean our rooms in an effort to offend him, we didn’t cut the grass, so that he would be offended, we didn’t get an A in math, just to upset him, we wore that shirt with a stain, just to make him angry.  We left a drinking glass on the table when we were clearing the supper dishes, because we were personally attacking him.  Some preachers are the same way.  That family missed Wednesday night just to make me mad.  That man is growing a goatee just to contradict me.  That woman is wearing pants because she is rebellious against her pastor.  That teen got a cross tattoo because he hates me personally.  All of them are backslidden, all of them hate God, all of them are going against the man of God!  We love to judge, but what happens when our judgment is false?  Our churches are small, our ministries are small, our mindset is small, our influence is small (that is not a bad thing) and in reality our faith is smaller than a mustard seed.

Do those ingrates not realize that I am to be obeyed; do they not understand pastoral authority?

Do those ingrates not realize that I am to be obeyed; do they not understand pastoral authority?  Do they actually think I do not know what is best for their lives and that I am an authority in all things, in all seasons?  Do they not know that I am THE MAN OF GOD?  Of course, once again let me stress that not every IFB pastor has this mindset, but far too many of them do.

Our churches are small because we give glory to men not God.  When I was a youth pastor, I saw a visiting evangelist (small “e” evangelist) point to my pastor, who was sitting on the platform,  and say “That man right there, sitting  in that chair, he is God to you.  He is not God, but he is God to you.  He represents God, therefore he is God to you on this earth.” WOW!  Guess which college this dude graduated from?  It starts with an “H” and ends with a “yles.”  To my pastor’s credit, he bowed his head and shook it softly signifying his humiliation and disagreement with the evangelist. (little “e”)  In my opinion he should have stopped that blasphemy right then and there,  sat that little “e” evangelist, publicly, and immediately, correct his heretical error and never invite him back.  That is what I would have done.  Then again, perhaps that is what my pastor wanted people to think; he is God to us.  To my knowledge my former pastor never corrected that error, even though I waited anxiously for

Little "e" evangelist!

it.  I will not judge his decision not to correct the error, maybe he just forgot about the satanic utterance from the little “e” evangelist, maybe he thought everyone knew better than to believe that, then again, maybe he did not really mind it at all.  Pastor, Evangelist, Missionary, you do not deserve the credit for what God has done.  Now we all play the false humility card and claim that it is not me it is God, but our actions betray our words.  We gloat, we crow, we brag, we puff and pound our little chests and in our hearts we shout “I’m the king of the world.”  The character that made that line famous wound up sinking into the black of the North Sea.  Long live the king.

Many preachers have developed an US against THEM mentality; this is another reason our churches and ministries are small.  A man became sick with an aggressive form of cancer and died a few weeks after he was diagnosed.  Some might say this was the mercy of God.  Others claim this man was judged and killed by God.  This man had served as a deacon in his church for many years.  He was a solid fundamentalist, a real man of God and great faith.  He saw his church, the one he loved, and for many years personally cared for, being dismantled from the inside by the new pastor.  He brought his concerns to that new pastor, who ignored him, became offended at the suggestion he was doing anything wrong, and huffed and puffed and pouted around the church.  You see the pastor saw the deacon’s criticisms as a personal attack.  He saw them as rebellion.  He saw them as an attack. Where in the bible does it say we are not allowed to disagree with the pastor?  Where does it say that disagreement with the pastor is rebellion?  The deacon made a painful decision to leave the church in which he had invested much time, and given much money.  Three months after leaving his home church the deacon died.  That pastor claimed, and would claim to this day, that God killed that rebellious man.  Yep, God killed him dead.

When we have an US vs. THEM mentality, everybody bleeds.

If God killed that old, emphasis on old, man then I should have died a thousand times over.  When that old deacon died, the church in question was running almost 500 on Sunday mornings.  Now it is rare for 150 to be in attendance Sunday morning.  The pastor in question seems to have made it his goal in life to run everyone off and destroy a once strong, and even great church.  “People just aren’t concerned about the things of God anymore.”  His attitude towards the members is suspicion, he deals with them based on an unknowable formula of favoritism, he is a little man who thinks he has big power.  In reality he is a little dictator without power, no love for people, and no desire to do anything but watch his little empire fall to ruin.

Here is an interesting personal anecdote.  When I was a teenager, I withstood my pastor in a public fashion.  Dr. Bill Bennet, a gracious and truly wonderful man of God, decided to change the name of our church.  I didn’t like it, I instigated other teens to join me in voting against the name change.  On a Sunday night business meeting, with about 500 in attendance, we voted.  All in favor signify by raising your hand…hands everywhere, the motion obviously passed, all opposed please stand to your feet…BOOM, I shot up so fast I burned the back of my legs on the front of my chair.  (to my great distress my little brother beat me to the punch and was the first teen standing in opposition to the pastor) Me and about thirty other teens stood to our feet in direct opposition to the pastor.  Allow me to quote Eddie Vedder “I’m still alive, yayeee uh-huh-ahh!”  My “rebellion” against the man of God was public and even boisterous.  I had gathered to myself about 30 others to withstand him publicly.  So God will kill a man if he privately confronts a pastor, but when you publicly confront one you are in the clear?  Would you like to know what that pastor said to me?  NOTHING.  One of the deacons in the church cornered me the next Sunday before Sunday School and put me in my place.  He explained to me why I was wrong and told me in no uncertain terms that I had sinned against God and against the pastor.  I later went to the pastor and asked his forgiveness.  Dr. Bennet told me he forgave me and that what I did showed leadership, even though it was wrong.  He encouraged me not to quit being a leader, but he cautioned me to pick my battles.  He pastored me, he did not berate me, he did not threaten me with death from above, he pastored me.

The nameless pastor of the nameless fundamental church has worried and fretted about silly things.  He does not care about the Jones family and their money problems, he could care less about the recovering drug addict who used to sit on the front row, but now, due to neglect and mistreatment, will not even shake his hand.  His attention is not Mrs. Smith’s desire to serve God and help in any way she can, no you see, Mrs. Smith is a nut job, she talks too much and causes trouble.  She and the other ladies are conspiring against the pastor and his wife.  They gossip, they get together for scrapbooking and talk trash about Mrs. Pastor, so we have to put an end to scrapbooking in the church.  We must stop all the fellowships, we have to keep people apart or they will talk trash about the pastor….newsflash pastor, if this describes your leadership style do the world and God a favor and resign.  Go back to working in the auto factory, or selling shoes, or flipping hamburgers, or whatever you did before, and leave the work of God to men and women who actually love people and want to see them spiritually thriving.

False judgment is as bad as no judgment.  I firmly believe we, as Christians, are supposed to judge with righteous judgment.  We are not supposed to judge a person unfairly or with guile in our hearts and minds, but we are to judge.  This is a tricky proposition, but we used to be able to pull it off.  Take for instance a drug addict.  He has been to prison, he has stolen money, cars, and other valuables.  Now he is clean and sober for two years, do we let him serve in the church?  Righteous judgment says yes we do.  Righteous judgment says not to let him be the church treasurer, but find a place to plug him in.  God has not put him on the shelf, and neither should we.  All too often we take the opposite approach, we put that man or woman on the shelf.  The drug addict has messed up in the past, and so he will mess up in the future.  He is a drain on society and on the church.  The best thing for this offense to humanity to do is die. We do not talk to him, we ignore him.  We do not use our supposed expertise to counsel, mentor, and disciple him, we shun him.  Only those who are perfect, with a perfect track record are fit to serve…unless.  Unless they are from some other fundamental church and they are ticked at their pastor, then we let them serve with no background check, no references, no call to the former pastor, because happy sheep do not seek other pastures.  We let them work in Jr. Church or VBS, or with our teens.  This is exercising no judgment.  Are you fairly and righteously judging, or are you guilty of false judgment and no judgment?

We must be careful, and seek the mind of Christ.  We must put on mercy, and have grace in our hearts.  We must love and truly pastor the sheep God has put us in charge of, while at the same time realizing that we are just sheep ourselves.  We are prone to sheepy things, we are susceptible to sheeply behavior, we are apt to do dumb sheep things.  Mercy, grace, and love, the mind Christ.

Pastor, Evangelist, Missionary, quit being a little man.   Realize you have no power.  Look at those you have an influence with and love them, have mercy on them, exercise grace with them, and while you are at it, with your fellow ministers too.

Little Men Big Power Part 1

Too many preachers are mean little men in prissy outfits!

It seems to me some men in our fundamental circles have a bit of a Napoleonic complex, not so much as a reaction to their stature but as a reaction to their position.  Their position is small, but they make much of it.  Not in a good sense, but in the sense that my little insignificant position and influence in the world is really much greater than anyone supposes.  Some men who have tiny ministries act like they are King Henry VIII;  imagine the voice of Dr. Smith form Lost in Space the T.V. show  – “You, peon, shall not speak to us until we have directly addressed yourself.  Do not you know that we are so-very-important that we must refer to ourself in the third person?”  Just like Dr. Smith from Lost in Space, these brave braggarts shrivel when the pressure comes to bear.

"You, peon, shall not speak to us until we have directly addressed yourself. Do not you know that we are so-very-important that we must refer to ourself in the third person?"

If we are honest with our selves we will admit the diminutive nature of most our ministries.  Many men, when confronted with the obvious fact of their small size, make excuses for shrunken services, minute memberships, and piddling participation.  These men puff out their tiny chests and begin to make excuses for this stark reality.  “People just aren’t interested in the things of God anymore,” they’ll say.   Is that why here in Houston, and all around the country, there are several multiple-campus churches that measure their attendance in the  tens of thousands every Sunday.  Oh, those are evil contemporary churches, they are as wicked as the Devil.

I have changed my thinking about contemporary churches. (Yeah boys, sharpen your rabid fangs) I do not think they are wicked.  I do not intend to go to one, but logic tells me they are not wicked.  Bad methodology? Perhaps, but when was what we traditionalists consider right considered wrong by those who would have considered us modernists?  Remember the time when a sound system meant you were a compromisor?  Remember when the piano was a tool of the Devil because every bar had one?  Remember when a guitar was a symbol of Rock -n- Roll and we didn’t use them?  Remember when the choir had to have robes or they were immodest?  Remember when anything but a black bible was modernism?  Remember when a lapel mic. meant you had sold out the cause of Christ for modern convenience?  Remember when using the term pot-luck was wrong because everyone knows luck is just short for Lucifer?  Remember when if you didn’t have a Scofield bible you were not a serious Christian?  And don’t even get me started on Sunday School and how that was going to ruin the church.

I know some readers of this blog are salivating because they now have proof that I am a liberal, but be advised, I do not think the Contemporary Church is the way to go.  I am against much of what goes on in them, not just because it is pandering to an A.D.D. culture, but because it removes the reverence from the church service.  Too much of the contemporary movement is centered around replacing true spirituality with an emotional feeling.  Too much emotion not enough instruction.

There is really nothing to say, Napoleon Dynamite is that Man-diggity!

These Contemporary Churches have one thing down pat.  They love people.  We, in Fundamentalism, used to love people but now we are too busy fighting with each other to love anyone.  Your church is small because, you my friend, are small-minded.  You are so angry at everyone that your mind is too clouded to care about them personally.  What good does it do to get in the pulpit and rail against pants on women?  Yep, we’re back to the pants again.  You are complaining about pants on women, bragging that your wife and daughter have never worn them, meanwhile some lady in your church is struggling with a real problem, for which she has no answers.  She came to church today looking for some help with a  burden and all she got was a lecture about what should be covering her legs??? Hey little preacher, you better pay attention to Hebrews 13:17, get over the a. portion of the verse and realize that you are going to give an account to God.  God is not as concerned with what a woman uses to cover her legs as He is with what is in her heart and soul.  Little preacher man, you say you believe in the Holy Spirit and the power of God, why don’t you search that King James bible and find something to preach on from there, instead of your own dear preferences.  Why not find a way to love people and help people, instead of tearing people down?

Our ministries are small, because we are small, but we think our power is big.  The power we believe we have is not derived from the Holy Spirit, but it is derived by virtue of a title.  Doctor, Evangelist, Pastor, Missionary, the coveted titles of the fundamental world.  Oh yeah, and the wonderful title Editor.  Every jack-leg with a newsletter wishes to be called editor.  No, this is not a shot at Dr. Smith, who is THE EDITOR!  After much personal contact with Dr. Smith I can say with certainty a few things about him, and I will.  Dr.

THE EDITOR - He never wields his power like a cudgel.

Smith is the type of man who commands respect.  Not because of his position but because of his demeanor and his accomplishments; he is the real deal.  Is he the smartest man in fundamentalism?Maybe, maybe not.  It does not matter.  Is he the greatest preacher in fundamentalism?  Maybe, maybe not.  It does not matter.  Dr. Smith is a gentleman in every sense of the word.  He is a man with a large ministry and some real power, the problem with Dr. Smith is that he does not act like he has either.  He is a humble gracious man who is interested in helping folks not hurting, not playing politics, not stabbing people in the back, not wielding what power he does have, for personal gain.  Shelton Smith has been a pastor and is now serving in an evangelist type ministry, plus editing the Sword of the Lord, the premier fundamental paper, but he is just a regular Joe.  He never acts like King Henry VIII or VII or VI or even Henry V.  He acts like Shelton Smith, a plain man.

Too many of us are power tripping.  We have that title, we have that attitude, we have that je ne sais, but not an ounce of quoi.  We are full of ourselves and thus, we are unable to be filled.  People leave our churches and it is never ever our fault; it is all their fault.  Church members get mad at the preacher, but it is never the preachers fault; those members are not right with God.  Visitors do not come back, the stinking liberals.  We are not called to preach the tent meeting; that dude is leaning.  We didn’t receive the Fantastic Fundamentalist award from our college; that place is going down the tubes.

Preachers are like that monkey I once heard about.  The monkey was given a jar with a banana in it.  He reached in and closed his fist around the banana, you’ve heard this story.  When he tried to pull his hand out it would not come, his fist was too big to fit through the jar.  We usually hear this story associated with greed, but let me give you the banana’s perspective.  You see, the monkey became mad, the banana would not do what the monkey wanted so he began to squeeze.  The banana still refused to conform to the monkey’s wishes, so the monkey squeezed harder.  The banana finally became mush and oozed out of the jar.  The nasty little monkey licked up every smashed morsel, but that banana was not as good as it could have been.   Preachers do the same thing to their ministries.  Instead of letting the ministry come, we reach in our greedy little hands and squeeze till it becomes mush, then we lick up every little morsel until it is gone.  Hey preacher, what is your hand gripping today?

Hey preacher what is your hand gripping today?
